Of Grace and Composure

A lot of people who knew and have seen me work on my first job would probably describe my first job as “hell.” It was grueling in the sense that I only get to have 1 rest day in a week’s work and during those workdays, I only get to sleep…err…I can only get sleep and do nothing else when I reach home. Also, the job requires composure, all the time. Imagine when a student asks you a question you’ve never heard or answered before. It can be frightening and fyi, it’s not really the “first time” that frightens you but rather, the I-don’t-know–the-answer part. :hide: So when one day a doctor-student asked me how long does a battery for CMOS last, my heart skipped for a second or two. Yet of course, a teacher wasn’t supposed to appear clueless around her student, especially if the student is the first ever student for the seminar. :hide: So I answered that the computers in the center have been there for 4 years or more already and their CMOS clocks are still working, thus, the battery could last that long or even longer. Toinks. I must have made a good argument or he must have been just kind for he let the answer pass. Hehe. So when the seminar ended and the feedback from that student was more than okay (for me), my supervisor and my other colleagues had a short meeting and they asked what the experience was like considering that it was my first time to do it, I shared to them the question I didn’t know the answer to and my supposed not-so-obvious-clueless answer. They all laughed and found it amusing that my supervisor told me, “Wow, Jane!”, and she turned to my colleagues and proudly told them, “Ganyan naman talaga si Jane. Composed at relaxed pa rin maski pressured na.” Wahaha! Paets. I’d take that as a compliment. =P

What brought me to write this entry is this supervisor/mentor’s name kept popping up that she’s online in YM. I missed her and the sense of feeling she brings with her in a room when she’s around. For me, she exudes elegance and grace at work. Let alone, composure, too. She remains an inspiration until now. God bless T. Flow. =)

Since Friday, I’m sick with cough and a cold. Lately I figured this is of a different strain because it stays in the throat and it’s as itchy as a til-as looks. :hide: And really, it’s so difficult to keep your composure in the office when it’s as silent as a grave. What I do is I try to clear my throat as gracefully as I could or if I can’t contain it anymore, I rush to the comfort room as gracefully as I could, hope that nobody else is around, lock the door behind me, and ubo with all my might na murag gisaniban og masamang espiritu. Haha! Then balik na pod sa composure ek-ek. Hahay. :hide:
